All About Hemp and CBD History

3. The top misconceptions + misinformation about CBD stems from the propaganda of Big pHarma.
4. The National Institute of Health has a patent on CBD for the treatment of diseases like Alzheimer’s, epilepsy, and Down syndrome. (Note: Their patent is on synthetic / lab-produced CBD, not natural)
5. Nearly all humans over age 25 are deficient in essential cannabinoids- CBD fills that deficiency.
6. In 1839 the first scientific
publication confirming that hemp could be used as medicine was published in the United States by William B. O’Shaughnessy. By 1850, the plant was added to the list of U.S. Pharmacopeia, the definitive compendium of medicines and dietary supplements of the day.7. It is believed that up to 90% of all medicines from 1850-to the early 1900s were derived from Hemp. By the late 1930s, medicinal hemp tinctures were available in pharmacies across America.
8. Even as far back as the 1800s, drug companies realized hemp was a panacea/cure-all and tried to keep the immense healing power of this plant concealed. Drug companies watered down and diluted their hemp-based medicines and the public was kept in the dark.
9. In the late 1800s, John D. Rockefeller, the patriarch of the Rockefeller family had just become wealthy extracting oil from the ground. He was looking for more ways to make money and gained control of drug manufacturing. He was responsible for taking to congress - the outlawing of homeopathic medicine. He called it quackery.
10. Not long after hemp medicine was banned, the U.S. Government then made it illegal to grow hemp for any use, not just medicine.
11. Andrew Mellon, who owned Mellon Bank, was the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from 1921 to 1932. During his term, he created the Bureau of Narcotics and appointed his niece’s husband, Harry Anslinger as the head of the division. Harry started a propaganda campaign spreading unsubstantiated false rumors that the Mexican population was smoking the flowers of the hemp plant and branded it “marijuana”.. (Spanish slang word for ‘prisoner’) He continued to spread lies about Mexicans and African Americans and incarcerated many saying this plant made them violent. He used this excuse to label hemp a narcotic, even though there was no factual basis for doing so.
12. In 1937 the Marijuana Tax act passed making hemp farming illegal.
13. In December 2016, the DEA quietly classified hemp-based CBD oil as a Schedule 1 Drug
14. In 2017, HEMPWORX was born, bringing hemp-derived CBD back to the marketplace.
15. In December 2018, President Trump removed hemp from the controlled substances list and ended 5 decades of prohibition.
